Partner Spotlight

Here at Somebody Cares Tampa Bay we want to take the time to recognize the people who partner with us. Each month we will take a moment to share with you one of our partners and what they do.

 June 2019

Thank You!

We are so proud to recognize Barbara Neu's organization, who for 15 years has tirelessly served Tampa Bay women in the strip clubs. She has been able to transform hundreds of lives, including their children with the backpacks Somebody Cares provides.  Originally called "Love's Way Out," her organization is now titled "Treasured Pearls" and provides love and restoration to many women across the Tampa Bay region.

Community outreach has always been a passion for Barbara Neu. However, she wouldn't discover exactly what community God would call her to until moving to Florida in 1994 from Long Island, NY. She was upset at the number of strip clubs she saw in Florida. After all, wasn't this the conservative "Bible Belt" region of the country? Back in Long Island, strip clubs had been grandfathered out in 1979. "So surely", Barbara thought "they would have been long eradicated in the South." Obviously, that wasn't the reality. Anger and disbelief was her first response, but those feelings soon culminated into research about the adult entertainment industry and investigating what exactly local churches were doing to minister to them.

In Barbara's conversation with churches, she was disheartened by the apathy and complacency ministries had towards the strip clubs. Few ministries were reaching adult entertainers and many had come to accept co-existing with the prevalence of strip clubs across the region. For Barbara, that was still a baffling existence for her to accept. In 2001, Barbara's ran across an article in the Evangel Magazine about Jeanie Turner. She is the Founder of One Way Out in Fort Myers and for 20+ years has picked women up out of the adult entertainment world, brushed them off in love, and introducing them to a real life with Christ. By the time Barbara finished reading this article, God confirmed in her heart the mission He was calling her to create.

By 2003, Barbara, with the support of her church and two other women's ministries, founded Love's Way Out. Since its inception 15 years ago, Love's Way Out has been making a Kingdom shift. Barbara's mission has become to simply, "go with no agenda or expectation but share the love of Christ". She uses the backpacks we provide to ensure single moms can send their kids back to school prepared. She also takes baked goods to the mothers and readily offers prayers. Not just the dancers have benefited, but even the bartenders and club owners. Barbara also continues to bless and work with women who have left the industry. Her ministry's efforts have ensured that every club in Pinellas and all but one in Hillsborough have been reached by the Gospel.

Thank You!

A huge thank you to Summer Breeze Roofing who was able to totally replace the badly ruined roofs of two St. Petersburg widows. Their homes incurred major damages by Irma and had no insurance to get roofs repair.  Until now, they had no means of protecting themselves from the weather until now.

"We deliver quality work. On time. Every time."

Summer Breeze Roofing is a family-owned and operated business, specializing in both residential and commercial roofing.  With quality craftsmnaship, they understand how important your roof is.  More importantly, they  understand how important your roofing contractor is.  This is why they don't settle for less than the best from hand-picked crews.  That means your work will be done right and on time. Summer Breeze takes the hassle and headaches out of replacing the most important part of your home, and has made it their mission to work with the best partners and vendors in the roofing business to make that happen.

Thank You!

Thank you Operation Blessing for a grant to help disaster relief victims with their roofs. These homes were damaged by Irma and had no insurance to get them fixed.  They had no means of protecting themselves from the weather until now. They have other needs as well if you would like to assist. You can call our office if you are interested in serving these families.

Somebody Cares has partnered with Operation Blessings since 2001 when we brought in our first semi-truck of food. Since then we have brought in trucks to different regions in Tampa Bay, releasing four to other groups. Ongoing we serve 16 partners with food that comes in monthly to our warehouse.

We also helped Operation Blessing get a warehouse in Ocala for easier transportation. Shortly after starting our partnership, we became the Eastern hub for OB for disaster relief, with just recently recevings a a $35,0000 grant to help homes affected by Hurricane Irma.

"We are dedicated to demonstrating God's love by alleviating human need and suffering in the United States and around the world."

Operation Blessing is fighting to end hunger in America and other nations. Find out how you can join these hunger relief efforts and bring hope to the hurting today! In uncertain economic times, many households are left unsure of where their next meal will come from. OBI's Hunger Strike Force has a fleet of tractor trailer trucks that transport much-needed food and relief products every week to a network of community-based partners across the U.S., who in turn serve local food pantries nationwide.

Whether it's empty cupboards for a hurting family in the U.S. or drought-stricken communities fighting famine in Africa, hunger is a very real enemy for so many worldwide. Children are especially at risk, as hunger can lead to sickness, malnutrition and even death. In the U.S., Operation Blessing's Hunger Strike Force delivers truckloads of food and relief every week to pantries and partnering organizations. Worldwide, OBI provides hunger relief by supporting nutritional feeding programs in schools, seed banks for families facing famine and community farms and garden projects that offer sustainable solutions for food insecure regions. Hunger relief is one of the core programs Operation Blessing employs to help families around the world rise up out of poverty.

 February 2019

Thank You Norm!

We greatly appreciate your ongoing support of what we do to serve in the community. Your tireless efforts to unite local leaders and church congregations in serving community causes has only been feasible through your faith and energy to share God's love in practical ways. For many years you have helped us serve the Plant City Area. We are glad to have your loyalty to organize and complete our Carefest projects each year. You're endurance has also helped to maintained a supportive network of pastors. You truly are your brother's keeper.

"I love to see Christians from all backgrounds gather for worship, fellowship, and prayer," he added. "I get excited to think about the possibilities if we could all become one in Christ. God's army cannot be defeated!"

Norman Blanton has for over twenty years been involved with Somebody Cares Tampa Bay. For his dedicated efforts, Blanton was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award 2018. In addition to organizing two Henry Blackaby conferences in partnership with other Christian leaders, the Plant City Chamber's "Good Egg Award" recipient for years has directed the Somebody Cares Plant City organization's efforts for CareFest and monthly marketplace/ pastors gatherings.

Blanton received Christ as his personal Savior at age 10 during a revival gathering. He described that experience as "so powerful and meaningful that it has been my Christian journey's foundation ever since." He credits the formation of his "passion and love for ministry" to "watching my mother and her mother's  faithfulness in their commitment to serve Christ and the church."

"I love to see Christians from all backgrounds gather for worship, fellowship, and prayer," he added. "I get excited to think about the possibilities if we could all become one in Christ. God's army cannot be defeated!"

Of his remaining years, Blanton said: "I want to finish well in my journey with The Lord, as the Scripture reads, 'that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection.' God is still working on me and through me. My hope is that my efforts to unify and impact our community for Christ would not be forgotten. John 17:21 is a prayer by Jesus, '…That they will all be one, as You, Father are in Me and I in You; that they also may one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.' One dream would be to see prayer altars established throughout our city; places where individuals, business peers, and families know they can go to pray for others. My desire is that Plant City will be ready for a spiritual awakening."

He wants everyone to know, "God loves you and He desires all men to be saved." So he advises, "Look to Jesus as the author and finisher of your faith. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) promises: 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future.' My prayer is that unbelievers will make a wise decision about their own eternity."

He also encourages believers: "Don't give up. Don't lose heart. Spend more time reading the Word of God and talking to Him in prayer. Our relationship with The Lord is more important than all the busy-ness of church activities. Psalm 85:6 poses a great question: 'Will You not revive us again that your people may rejoice in You? Show us your mercy, Lord, and grant us Your salvation.'"
